FedEx Launches New Regional Logistics Hub in Qatar’s Ras Bufontas Free Zone

To strengthen supply‐chain capabilities between Asia, Europe, and the Middle East

FedEx Logistics, in collaboration with the Qatar Free Zones Authority (QFZ), has inaugurated a state-of-the-art regional logistics facility today at the Ras Bufontas Free Zone, marking a significant expansion of its footprint in the Gulf region.

The new hub is designed to strengthen supply‐chain capabilities between Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.

The facility is strategically located adjacent to Hamad International Airport and sits within the Ras Bufontas Free Zone, which offers streamlined customs processing, access to modern air and sea transport links, and proximity to major trade corridors.

By positioning itself here, FedEx aims to offer faster transit times, better integration with global cargo routes, and enhanced service for clients doing business in and through Qatar.

FedEx and QFZ had earlier cemented their cooperation via a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to build this facility; that agreement laid the groundwork for incremental infrastructure investments and regulatory alignment meant to facilitate trade flows.

Creating the First Middle East Logistics Hub for FedEx in Dubai

From a regional logistics standpoint, the new hub gives FedEx an ability to manage freight forwarding, customs brokerage, and cross-border transportation more efficiently.

It also positions Qatar as a more attractive transshipment node, especially because the hub taps into both air and maritime supply chains in ways that shorten delivery windows for customers across the Middle East, South Asia, and beyond.

Officials from both FedEx and the QFZ emphasized how this investment reflects broader ambitions to boost Qatar’s position in global trade and logistics networks.

H.E. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Hamad Bin Faisal Al-Thani, CEO of QFZ, said: “We are proud to welcome FedEx Logistics to our thriving logistics ecosystem, home to four of the world’s top ten logistics providers.

"The investment by FedEx underscores QFZ’s competitive advantages, world-class infrastructure, seamless logistics connectivity network, strategic geographical location close to the most prominent global markets, enhancing the ability of investing companies to reach large segments of consumers globally."

Mr. Patrick Moebel, President of FedEx Logistics, commented: “Establishing this facility in Qatar enables us to connect our Qatari and regional customers to major markets in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and North America with greater speed and efficiency.

"By integrating this location into the FedEx global network, we can deliver smarter, more reliable logistics solutions that help businesses grow and compete in today’s fast-moving global economy."

The timing of the opening comes as regional demand for faster, more reliable supply chains continues to rise, driven by e-commerce growth, geopolitical shifts, and companies seeking to diversify logistics hubs.

For FedEx, this hub is expected to reduce lead times, improve customs and clearance speed, and provide greater capacity and flexibility for routing both air and sea freight.

In sum, the Ras Bufontas facility is more than a warehouse, it represents a strengthening of FedEx’s network and a logistical bet on Qatar as a nexus point for global trade. As it begins operations, all eyes will be on how the new hub delivers on its promise to reshape regional supply-chain dynamics.
