Watch: Abu Dhabi Becomes the Beating Heart of the Global Covid Battle

‘The Hope Consortium: Abu Dhabi’ brings together government, logistics and healthcare to be the driving force in beating coronavirus

Transport & Logistics Middle East (TLME) is proud to present a new video outlining how Abu Dhabi is prepared, positioned and currently playing a central role in the global rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The new video focuses on “The Hope Consortium: Abu Dhabi” and showcases how the region is strategically positioned and logistically prepared for one of the greatest global challenges in recent decades.

The COVID-19 vaccine rollout has been called “the greatest logistical challenge since World War 2”, which is why the world’s finest minds have come together to solve this logistics puzzle and centred the rollout from Abu Dhabi.

The video features rich insights and cutting-edge computer graphics to show the inner workings of key infrastructure, transport fleets and official Covid-19 figures.

It also features a variety of governmental and logistics leaders outlining the role their sector or organisation must play in the rollout.

Dr Jamal Mohammed Al Kaabi, Undersecretary of the Department of Health, Abu Dhabi, said: “The Hope Consortium represents a complete supply chain solution. We are aiming to raise around 18 billion vials by the end of next year.”

The video also features insights from Etihad Cargo, Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADP), Rafed and SkyCell.

Each of these companies, along with the Abu Dhabi government, has made Abu Dhabi the beating heart of the Covid-19 battle plan.

Robert Sutton, Head of the Logistics Cluster at ADP’s KIZAD facility, describes in the video how his organisation is meeting the critical mission.

Sutton states that the cold-storage facilities at KIZAD are “some of the most modern anywhere in the world”, adding how they are digitally monitored at all times to ensure compliance with the Covid vaccine temperature parameters.

The video also features Etihad Cargo’s Martin Drew, Senior VP of Sales and Cargo at Etihad Aviation Group, SkyCell CEO Richard Ettl, Maqta Gateway CEO Dr Noura Al Dhaheri, and CEO of procurement specialist Rafed, Rashed Al Qubaisi.

Mr Al Qubaisi sounds a note of hope and vision in stating he is proud to be “actively serving humanity during this worldwide pandemic."

Abu Dhabi’s Hope Consortium has engaged four globally leading freight forwarder partners to address logistical challenges in the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines, including the ‘last mile’.

Together, Agility, Aramex, Hellman and Kuehne + Nagel operate in over 170 countries and will provide added capacity for the billions of vaccines that are needed to be delivered over the next two years.

Spearheaded by the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, the Hope Consortium, which includes Etihad Cargo, Abu Dhabi Ports, Rafed – the healthcare purchasing arm of ADQ, Magta Gateway and Switzerland’s SkyCell, continues to cement its position as the go-to global platform for logistical solutions to transport billions of vaccines globally.

The new partners will offer their services through the platform with increased last mile and freight forwarding capabilities.

The video is the latest in a successful series from TLME in which the organisation has charted the global and regional response to the pandemic.

TLME CEO Sam Khan said: “I’m so proud to be shedding some much-needed light onto the Abu Dhabi region and the supply chain throughout this pandemic.

“It’s been a challenging time for us all, and the supply chain often goes by unnoticed, yet in these challenging times many key figures, key companies and our regional governments have stood up and met the tasks at hand.

“It’s made me very proud to work in the logistics arena and live in the UAE region. I’m very blessed to be able to make quality videos with my team that showcase the hard work, sacrifice and vision of the Abu Dhabi government and The Hope Consortium at this time.”
