Creating the First Middle East Logistics Hub for FedEx in Dubai
TLME Chairman Joe Beydoun asks CEO and Founder of SolitAir, Hamdi Osman, about his time at FedEx and how he created Dubai as the first logistics hub for FedEx in the Middle East and India.
Mr Osman said at the time, in the mid ‘90s cities in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia were being looked at by FedEx to set up an air cargo hub.
However, after having the opportunity to speak with the rulers of Dubai and understanding the vision they had for the city, Mr Osman recommended Dubai to FedEx top management as the place to land for FedEx in the Middle East and “thank God I was right”, said Mr Osman.
The first FedEx flight landed in Dubai in 1995. It was during the Covid-19 pandemic that Mr Osman realized the potential for express regional aviation services and the idea of SolitAir was born.
