Soren Toft Leaves Maersk & Joins MSC as New CEO

Is move symbolic of MSC’s growing stock as number one liner?

Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has secured former Maersk Chief Operation Officer (COO) as its new CEO, outlining its ambition for the future to be the worlds number one liner.

Toft recently left Maersk (in November, 2019) and reports did circulate regarding a potential move to MSC and now the appointment has been confirmed.

The news comes as industry data shows, at current growth forecasts, MSC will be the world’s biggest liner by capacity in the near future.

In a statement, MSC said was confident Toft will “...bring significant value to its cargo businesses, building on the company’s existing strengths and boosting its development plans even further.”

Toft worked at Maersk for 25 years and became its Chief Operating Officer (COO) in 2014.

In his new role with MSC he will report directly to Diego Aponte, Group President, and Gianluigi Aponte, MSC founder and Group Chairman.

His official start date has not yet been revealed.
