Abu Dhabi Launches Smart Logistics Pilot with noon and AutoGo

Emirate accelerates autonomous delivery deployment to boost e-commerce efficiency
Published on

In a significant push toward future-ready logistics and mobility, the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), part of the Abu Dhabi Department of Municipalities & Transport, has launched a pilot delivery programme using autonomous vehicles, in collaboration with regional e-commerce platform noon and AutoGo, the autonomous vehicle division of advanced technology group K2.

A Leap Toward Smart and Sustainable Mobility

The initiative is aligned with Abu Dhabi’s smart mobility vision, which targets 25% of all trips to be completed using smart transport systems by 2040. According to the ITC, the programme aims to reduce traffic congestion, lower carbon emissions and enhance delivery speed, reliability and efficiency by integrating autonomous technology into urban logistics networks.

Dr Abdulla Hamad AlGhfeli, Acting Director-General of ITC, stated, “The pilot project underlines ITC’s role in enabling innovative technologies within a safe and reliable regulatory framework that advances sustainability and improves quality of life across the community.”

noon Sees New Frontier in Autonomous Delivery

Faraz Khalid, Chief Executive Officer of noon, said, “Noon aims to redefine the future of e-commerce through innovation, and our partnership with the ITC and AutoGo is an important step towards developing autonomous delivery solutions that improve the efficiency and sustainability of logistics services.”

The pilot will initially operate small-scale fulfilment deliveries using driverless vehicles equipped with AI, advanced sensors and autonomous navigation systems. Noon intends to integrate the service into its existing last-mile operations.

AutoGo Powers the Technology Backbone

AutoGo, a division of K2, provides the autonomous vehicle systems, which are designed to safely navigate urban environments without human intervention. The vehicles support mini-fulfilment delivery routes and are expected to optimise operational costs by cutting fuel usage and reducing dependence on traditional delivery fleets.

The next phase will focus on expanding routes, increasing the volume and variety of goods carried, and potentially extending operations across the UAE.

Reinforcing Abu Dhabi’s Role as a Testbed for Innovation

The project is overseen by the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council (SASC), underscoring Abu Dhabi’s ambition to become a global hub for autonomous mobility. The emirate is already actively testing drone-based delivery, and this latest initiative marks another step in building a multimodal smart logistics ecosystem.

Public-private partnerships are at the heart of this strategy, combining government regulatory support with private sector innovation.

Challenges and Opportunities Ahead

The pilot must navigate regulatory and safety standards, consumer acceptance and proof of commercial viability. Real-world performance in congested urban districts will be closely monitored.

However, early indicators suggest strong potential. Faster and more efficient delivery, reduced environmental impact and lower road network strain could dramatically reshape logistics models in the region.

The Future of Logistics May Arrive Driverless

With its autonomous delivery pilot, Abu Dhabi is signalling that the future of logistics - smart, efficient and low-emission - is nearer than you might think. The collaboration between ITC, noon and AutoGo could mark the beginning of a wider logistics transformation, with regional and potentially global ripple effects.
