Watch: Hapag-Lloyd Puts Massive LNG Engine in Newbuild Mega-Ship

Hapag-Lloyd prepares for sustainable future

A video on German liner Hapag Lloyd's Facebook channel shows the moment a huge LNG engine is placed inside one of its incoming 23,600 TEU mega-ships.

The video in question is highlighted below.

With pressure mounting on the shipping sector, liners around the world are preparing to meet the IMO's goal of net-zero shipping by 2050.

The wind down to 2050 also involves major decreases in carbon emission every decade.

Hapag-Lloyd presently has 12 newbuilds on order, all with "duel-fuel" capability.

The aforementioned dual-fuel engines run on LNG, but also have the option of running on conventional petroleum.

In June 2023, Hapag-Lloyd increased its tariff rates for shipping routes between Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh, and destinations in North and South Europe.

More recently, Hapag-Lloyd announced that a congestion surcharge (CGD) for containers is coming into effect for the Port of Mersin, Turkey.
