Port of Salalah Targeted in Drone Attack Amid Escalating Gulf Conflict

Strike on major transshipment hub raises fresh concerns over shipping security and global supply chains

A drone strike hit the Port of Salalah in Oman earlier today, marking a further escalation in the ongoing regional conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran.

According to initial reports, at least two drones struck the port, damaging infrastructure including a terminal crane and injuring one worker.

The attack reportedly targeted a US-linked logistics vessel, underscoring the growing risks to maritime operations in the Gulf region. Authorities temporarily evacuated the port and suspended operations, with major shipping lines, including Maersk, halting activity as a precaution.

All crew members and vessels were reported safe, though the incident has raised concerns about the vulnerability of critical trade hubs. The Port of Salalah is a key transshipment hub along major global shipping routes, making the strike particularly significant for international logistics.

The incident comes amid intensifying hostilities across the Gulf, where drone and missile attacks on infrastructure have become increasingly frequent. The continued strikes threaten to disrupt global supply chains and energy flows, further destabilising already volatile markets.
