Mawani Boosts Saudi Arabia's Connectivity to Ports in North and South Europe

New service adds regular weekly voyages and handling capacities of up to 15,000 TEUs

Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) has added the 'LEVANTE EXPRESS' shipping service by Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC). This service, operational from April 2024 at the Jeddah Islamic Port, signifying a robust linkage between the Kingdom’s ports and those in northern and southern Europe.

The introduction of the 'LEVANTE EXPRESS' mirrors the confidence investors have in the port's operational efficiency and its ability to accommodate various ship sizes and cargo types.

This is in alignment with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy (NTLS), aiming to fortify the Kingdom’s position as a pivotal global logistics hub that bridges three continents.

This new service provides direct connections from Jeddah Islamic Port to key European ports, including La Spezia and Naples in Italy, Mersin in Turkey, and Alexandria in Egypt, offering regular weekly voyages and handling capacities of up to 15,000 TEUs.

The service significantly bolsters Jeddah Islamic Port's competitive edge for exporters, importers, and shipping agents. This advantage stems from continuous developmental efforts by 'Mawani' to elevate the port into the global top 10.

Notably, the completion of enhancement and development works at the Northern Container Terminal within the current year, with investments of SAR 6.6 billion, has upgraded its operational capabilities, increased its handling capacity, and boosted the efficiency of its logistics services.

It is noteworthy that Jeddah Islamic Port is equipped with 62 multi-purpose berths and offers a comprehensive suite of logistics services for bonded and re-export zones. It supports a direct truck transport system to and from the port and boasts specialized terminals and advanced facilities.

These include two container handling terminals with a capacity for 7.5 million standard TEUs, two general cargo terminals, two ship repair docks, and various marine service quays for mooring and maritime guidance, capable of managing up to 130 million tonnes.
