Maersk to Suspend All Operations in Syria from First of December

Announcement comes due to international sanctions that are making operations difficult

Maersk has announced the complete suspension of shipping operations to and from Syria due to sanctions on the country.

In a staement the company said “after careful consideration and a thorough evaluation of available options, we have decided to formally wind down our operations in Syria.”

The statement added that Syria being a highly sanctioned country, business activity has already been very restricted. “Maersk has therefore conducted limited operations in Syria in full compliance with international sanctions.”

The company noted that maintaining operations has “recently become even more challenging logistically, and we have therefore made the decision to close our operations down completely.”
