Is DP World Set to End Qatar Blockade?

Reports speculate that ban is set to be lifted

DP World is set to partially end the blockade on Qatari goods after a long-held ban, according to reports as yet unspecified.

The information came to light after a port circular was sent to shippers outlining a change in which DP World reportedly stated sanctions will remain on Qatari flagged vessels, but be lifted on vessels with other flags travelling from Qatar.

The circular stated: "There is no acceptance of vessels with a Qatari flag or owned by a Qatari shipping company or Qatar nationals excluding emergencies and rescue operations related to safety of life at sea.

“Similarly, UAE flag vessels are not allowed to call at Qatari ports."

The GCC countries originally placed the ban on Qatari goods in 2017, citing support for Iran as its concern.

Abu Dhabi Ports is also thought to have sent a similar circular a week before DP World.

While no official statement has been made, TLME News has reached out to the relevant parties for comment, and expects the port giant to address the matter imminently.
