Qatar's Hamad Port has achieved a significant milestone in global maritime logistics, climbing three places to rank eighth worldwide and securing second position among Gulf ports in the 2025 Container Port Performance Index (CPPI), reinforcing Qatar’s growing prominence as a major international shipping and trade hub.

The latest rankings, jointly published by the World Bank and S&P Global Market Intelligence, highlight Hamad Port’s continued progress in operational efficiency, infrastructure development and service excellence.

The port’s improved standing marks a notable rise from its previous global ranking and reflects years of strategic investment aimed at strengthening Qatar’s position within the international supply chain network.

Widely regarded as one of the most advanced ports in the region, Hamad Port has become a central pillar of Qatar’s economic diversification strategy under Qatar National Vision 2030.

Since its inauguration, the facility has played a critical role in expanding the country’s trade capabilities by connecting Qatar directly to major international markets across Asia, Europe and Africa.

The 2025 CPPI evaluates container ports around the world based on operational efficiency, vessel turnaround time and the speed at which cargo is handled.

Hamad Port’s jump into the global top 10 demonstrates the effectiveness of its modern infrastructure, advanced digital systems and streamlined logistics operations, allowing vessels to move cargo more quickly and efficiently.

Regionally, Hamad Port now ranks as the second-best performing port among Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, further cementing Qatar’s competitive standing in an increasingly important regional shipping sector.

The Gulf region continues to play a strategic role in global trade routes, with ports competing heavily to attract international shipping lines and expand transshipment services.

Industry analysts say the achievement reflects Qatar’s long-term commitment to investing in smart port technologies, sustainability initiatives and supply chain resilience. Hamad Port has increasingly focused on automation, environmentally sustainable operations and expanding capacity to accommodate rising cargo volumes.

Officials have welcomed the latest ranking as a testament to Qatar’s growing leadership in maritime transport and logistics. The recognition is expected to further boost investor confidence while strengthening the country’s appeal as a gateway for international trade and commerce.

As competition among global ports intensifies, Hamad Port’s continued rise in international rankings underscores its transformation into one of the world’s leading container terminals.

The achievement not only highlights operational excellence but also reflects Qatar’s broader ambition to position itself as a central player in global logistics, trade connectivity and sustainable economic growth in the years ahead.
