Insight: Is Amazon Now a Shipper? 

US giant is all but the number one player in contemporary shipping

With Amazon consistently pushing into the shipping sector, it now seems that the US-giant can now be called a ‘shipper’.

The stunning success of Amazon has made CEO Jeff Bezos the world’s richest man, at least that’s according to financial records, and last year his company sent around 4.7 million cartons of consumers goods from China to the United States.

Moving such a vast amount of cargo with a fleet of ships, airplanes and automobiles means Amazon is the world’s most advanced and capable shipper.

Amazon Air to Crush Competition

Steve Ferreira, CEO of Ocean Audit, said: “This makes them the only e-commerce company that is able to do the whole transaction from end-to-end. Amazon now has a closed ecosystem.”

This means Amazon is now miles ahead in terms of its capability, and it clearly aims to go further, should it avoid antitrust concerns, which is presumably the reason why Amazon has yet to delve fully into ocean shipping.

2019 looks to be very important for the future of the supply chain, and the impact Amazon are to have.
