Dredging work to begin for Sohar Port expansion

200  hectare expansion projects have customers lining up to set up shop at the port.

According to a report in Arabian Business dredging work has been planned for a new port expansion project at Sohar in Oman.

Dredging International NV – Earth Moving Worldwide Ltd has been awarded the contract for the development of phase 1 of the Sohar Port South Construction Package I.

The value of the deal is estimated at USD24 million. The first 50 hectares of useable land will be developed within the new port expansion. The works are expected to be fully completed by the fourth quarter of 2018.

The larger Sohar Port South Development involves extensive land reclamation that will add 200 hectares to the present port capacity of approximately 2,000 hectares.

Sohar Port and Freezone CEO Mark Geilenkirchen said: “Investors are lining up to take advantage of the additional 200 hectares being offered as part of the Sohar Port South Development."
