Number of Major Food Security Agreements Inked at WUWM 2022, Abu Dhabi

The World Union of Wholesale Markets (WUWM) Conference currently taking place in Abu Dhabi saw leading players from the world’s largest wholesale markets participate with the signing of a number of significant agreements:

Abu Dhabi First City in the UAE to Join Milan Urban Food Policy Pact

The Emirate of Abu Dhabi today signed the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact (MUFPP), joining over 250 cities worldwide committed to more sustainable food systems.  

The pact was signed by His Excellency Dr. Salem Al Kaabi, Director General of Operations Affairs at the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) on behalf of Abu Dhabi government, during the World Union of Wholesale Markets 2022 Conference.

A major global initiative, the Milan Pact, involves over 250 cities representing 450 million people.

As well as offering a comprehensive framework, the pact includes recommendations and actions that will support sound planning of laws and systems, governance, the production and distribution of sustainable food systems and supply networks.

Through this pledge, the Abu Dhabi Government aims to ensure the achievement of an integrated food security system, which is one of the most critical priorities of governments and organisations worldwide.

Abu Dhabi seeks to use the latest digital innovations and artificial intelligence to stimulate the agricultural sector and achieve sustainable food production.

KEZAD Group and ADAFSA sign Agreement to Enhance Food Trade Regulation

Khalifa Economic Zones Abu Dhabi - KEZAD Group, the integrated trade, logistics, and industrial hub of Abu Dhabi, and the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) signed an agreement for the joint establishment of a Global Agri-food City.

Under the agreement, the two entities will collaborate to stimulate growth and investment across Abu Dhabi’s food trade ecosystem, including the Abu Dhabi Food Hub – KEZAD and KEZAD Agtech Hub – Al Ain, through the implementation of an enabling and unified regulatory framework.

This will cover trading, distribution and logistics, processing, agtech production, R&D and related activities.

The agreement was signed by Mohamed Ghareeb Al Hosani, Chief Experience Officer, KEZAD Group and His Excellency Nasser Mohammed Al Junaibi, Executive Director, Investment and Commercial Sector, Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority.

Change Foods and KEZAD Group Sign Agreement for Innovative Dairy Production

Change Foods has signed an agreement with KEZAD Group to design a dedicated commercial manufacturing plant solution for the production of its animal-free dairy in Abu Dhabi, with the support of the Ministry of Economy of the UAE under the NextGen FDI initiative.

The agreement was signed by David Bucca, Founder and CEO, Change Foods and Mohamed Al Khadar Al Ahmed, CEO Khalifa Economic Zones Abu Dhabi - KEZAD Group.
