Goodman Develops Logistics Facility for K+N in Germany

35,000 sq m complex will act as a buffer stock warehouse

Goodman has announced that it is building another logistics facility for its long-standing customer, Kuehne + Nagel, adding to the construction activity for home24 in Halle’s Star Park, Germany.

The 35,000 sq m complex will act as a buffer stock warehouse for the logistics provider and will be completed in July 2019. Goodman now manages more than 400,000 sq m in this key industrial park near Leipzig, securing over 150,000 sq m across three deals in the past year.

The new warehouse will be used to distribute goods to Zalando’s fulfillment centres, thus contributing to increased availability of inventory within the network.

This will help to further reduce the need for shipments between fulfillment centers and is expected to result in better delivery times for Zalando customers.

Additionally the inbound distribution centre will help Zalando to increase the turnover of stock in the Zalando fulfillment centres.

The general contractor for this project is Goodman’s long-standing partner Max Bögl Stiftung & Co. KG.

Gerd Hessler, Central Division Director of Building Construction for the Eastern Region at Max Bögl, explains the special measures it is taking on this project: “We’re pleased to play an active role in shaping Star Park in Halle through our construction operations and thank Goodman for the trust they placed in us.

“In order to build this high-quality facility in a short period of time, we’ll involve our pre-cast concrete element plants in Gera and Linthe.

“ With manufacture unrestricted by weather conditions, they’ll produce more than 1,100 high-grade pre-cast concrete parts within an extremely short period and install them or provide just-in-time deliveries to the construction site, so we can deliver the project quickly.”

The Halle location has a good infrastructure with a direct link to the A14 motorway. With Leipzig/Halle, Germany’s second largest freight airport in the vicinity.

Star Park is highly suitable for companies that need to coordinate their goods across Europe. Goodman has been active at this location for many years developing a 28,000 sq m logistics facility for eBay Enterprise in 2015 and a 22,000 sq m logistics centre for Hellmann Worldwide Logistics in 2016.

Goodman recently announced that it was building a 70,000 sq m logistics centre on the site for the online home and living company home24, which is expected to be completed in early 2019.

“We already have a strong presence in Halle an der Saale and securing our long-standing customer Kuehne + Nagel at the site, highlights the location’s appeal and great trust in our work,” affirms Christof Prange, Head of Business Development at Goodman.
