Early Adoption of Technology is Key to Successful Operations: Andre Simha

Delivering the keynote speech at TLME's Future-Proof Technologies conference held in Dubai, Andre Simha, Global Chief Digital & Innovation Officer, MSC, highlighted how implementing the right technologies was key to successful logistics operations.

Giving an example on the benefits of digitalisation Mr Simha referred to the latest containerships with capacities exceeding 24,000 TEUs. Each of the containers onboard has at least 10 times as many related documents that are used at each stage of the containers' movements.

The electronic bill of lading or "eBL", first implemented by MSC a year ago, was a smart solution to replace all the cumbersome and resource intensive paperwork, said Mr Simha going on to describe the various benefits of digitalising the supply chain.

This digital transformation however, Mr Simha emphasised, was not going to happen overnight but piece by piece, box by box.

Though digitalisation should have begun 30 years ago its not too late and best time to make our supply chains smarter, more digital, was right now, concluded Mr Simha.
