Experts Discuss ‘Sustainability and Technology in Logistics’

USW Dubai launches MSc in International Logistics and Supply Chain Management

Following the successful opening of the University of South Wales (USW) Dubai in September, the University has launched a new MSc International Logistics and Supply Chain Management, to be offered at its Dubai South campus from 2019.

Logistics industry experts gathered for the launch at the USW Dubai campus in Dubai South today and explored the theme of ‘Sustainability and Technology in Logistics’.

The event featured a keynote address from Mohsen Ahmad, CEO Logistics District, Dubai South, and a presentation of sustainability initiatives in the industry from Aramex International’s Chief Sustainability Officer, Raji Hattar, as well as a discussion on how sustainability and technology shape logistics by USW’s Logistics Course Leader, Stuart Milligan.

Starting in September 2019, the new KHDA-approved postgraduate course will complement the specialist aerospace engineering education facility in Dubai South and will be delivered in a block-mode format, which will enable practicing professionals to study whilst working.

The programme is perfectly positioned to provide for the future development needs of the aerospace sector and other strategically important sectors in the UAE, offering the knowledge and skills to work in many business areas across multinational enterprises.

Professor Julie Lydon, University of South Wales Vice-Chancellor, said: “The aircraft maintenance courses that USW provides in Dubai are giving students in the region the chance to learn from industry-leading experts in the field, and this additional course will expand these opportunities for students.

“Our international logistics and supply chain expertise is already renowned in the UK whereby we enjoy accreditation from the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport and the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply, and work with industry leaders including Thales and Airbus.”

“We will bring this knowledge and experience to Dubai, so that students on this new course will have access to world-leading skills in this subject.

“It is our intention that our industry partnerships will be as strong as they are in the UK reflecting the global developmental needs that these courses seek to address,” concluded Lydon.

Commenting on the new programme, Mohsen Ahmad said: “We are delighted to take part alongside key experts in the industry offering their vast expertise and experience in an area that has become integral in today’s business climate during the launch of the USW latest program.

“This new program, further boosts Dubai South’s offerings, position and reputation, and establishes Dubai as a regional leader for logistics, sustainability and innovation education that will progress the skillset of workforces in the UAE and throughout the region.

“Furthermore, it is certain to provide new avenues for the upcoming generation of logistics and supply chain experts in the UAE.”

This new introduction is in addition to the existing BSc (Hons) Aircraft Maintenance Engineering with integrated European Aviation Safety Agency/General Civil Aviation Authority (EASA/GCAA) training, and BSc (Hons) Aircraft Maintenance Engineering top-up degree and Foundation course, through which a student can gain the right qualifications to move onto the degree programme.
