Pakistan International Airlines Flight Crashes outside Karachi Airport

PIA Flight PK8303 took off from Lahore with 107 souls on board

A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Airbus 320 flight (PK8303) with 99 passengers and 8 crew members has crashed just outside Karachi Airport.

Details of casualities are yet being ascertained. The flight took off from Lahore and was due to land at 2:30 pm local time in Karachi.

The plane crashed into a residential colony about 3 kms north-east of Karachi's Jinnah International Airport damaging some low-rise buildings.

According to media reports, the last communication with the plane took place as it approached the landing strip. It was then the pilot reported technical difficulties, aborted the landing and chose to fly around and make another approach.

According to eye witness reports, the plane was flying at a very low altitude and a minute later its tail hit a low rise building causing the plane to crash onto the ground a little further on.

Rescue operations are on going. Pakistan had resumed limited commercial flights since May 16.
