Muscat Airport gets new automated cargo Terminal
Operations have begun at the new cargo terminal at Muscat airport. “The terminal that aims at being one of the main stations for cargo has a capacity of 350,000 tons per year,” according to a statement from Oman Aviation Services.
Exports from the terminal building have already started and all operations will be transferred to the new building in a few days.
Mohammed Al Zaabi, CEO of Oman’s Public Authority for Civil Aviation said, “We are very pleased with the successful operation of the new air cargo building with a capacity of 350,000 tons per year and an expansion capacity of 500 thousand tons. The equipment includes state-of-the-art technologies to keep pace with the steady growth in air traffic."
The area of the new cargo building is 32,000 square metres and the warehouse has an area of around 23,000 square metres.
The fully automated facility will also support national flag-carrier Oman Air’s continuing expansion. ALS Logistic Solutions is the supplier of automated cargo handling systems that have commissioned and handed over at the terminal.
The Muscat terminal, which is expected to operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, comes complete with a proven IT software and hardware system for material handling and with what ALS describes as “an easy to operate, state-of-the-art man-machine interface”. (Source: Oman Aviation Services)
