DP World to be Worldwide Partner of Ryder Cup

Dubai logistics giant continues its celebrated association with golf

The combined golfing bodies of Ryder Cup Europe and the PGA of America have announced a new agreement with Dubai-based logistics giant DP World that will see it become the Worldwide Partner of the hugely popular Ryder Cup.

The Ryder Cup is perhaps the biggest competition in golf in which the best players from Europe and the USA compete by representing their respective teams.

Established in 1927, the biennial competition pits 12 of the top professional golfers from the US and Europe against each other in a head-to-head match play competition.

Given that the Ryder Cup is a massive logistical operation involving hundreds of different partners and contractors, DP World is bringing its experience to to help deliver the event.

A statement from The Ryder Cup organizational body's website read: "With an interconnected network spanning 75 countries across six continents and day-to-day operations accounting for 10% of global trade, DP World’s logistical capabilities make it perfectly positioned to help deliver the Ryder Cup and enhance the efficiency and success of golf as a global sport."

The new partnership strengthens DP World’s strong ties with the game of golf, and the wider sports sector, where it is "on a mission to support the growth of sports worldwide through its smart logistics solutions".

DP World, and Dubai in general, has been a pioneer in bringing sports to the Middle East, thereby evolving several sporting events and changing the image of the Middle East.

Saudi Arabia has seemingly followed suit in this regard, having now held several world-title boxing matches and more recently invested heavily in bringing the best football players from around the world to its league.

Players that have joined the Saudi Pro League in 2023 include ex-Real Madrid and Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, his ex-Real Madrid teammate Karim Benzema, as well as a host of other famous names including ex-Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson, Algerian star Riyad Mahrez, and French midfielder N'golo Kante.
