Khorfakkan Port, affiliated with the Sharjah Ports, Customs and Free Zones Authority and Gulftainer, is all set to mark a major milestone in regional automotive logistics with the arrival of a record shipment of 6,068 electric vehicles (EVs) from Chinese automaker BYD, the largest single consignment of finished vehicles ever handled at the port.
The vehicles were transported aboard a dedicated roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) vessel that departed from Xiaomo International Logistics Port in Shenzhen, China, inaugurating a new direct maritime route between the two hubs.
The shipment not only represents a new high for Khorfakkan Port but also sets a record for the Chinese departure terminal, underscoring the growing scale of global EV trade flows.
Officials say the newly launched Shenzhen–Khorfakkan corridor is expected to significantly enhance logistics efficiency for automotive shipments into the UAE and wider Middle East.

By bypassing longer routes, the service reduces transit times by an estimated three to five days, improving supply chain reliability and lowering exposure to disruptions in key maritime chokepoints such as the Strait of Hormuz.
The arrival comes at a time of strong demand for electric vehicles across the Gulf, where supply constraints in recent months have led to extended delivery wait times.
Industry sources indicate that demand for EVs in the UAE has been outpacing supply, making large-scale shipments such as this critical to stabilising inventory levels.
Operated by the Sharjah Ports, Customs and Free Zones Authority and managed by Gulftainer, Khorfakkan Port has been steadily strengthening its position as a regional automotive gateway.
The terminal has already handled more than 24,000 vehicles in 2026, supported by efficient discharge rates and streamlined customs processes that enable vehicles to clear and exit the port within four days.
The record BYD shipment highlights not only the rapid expansion of China’s EV export capacity but also the UAE’s growing role as a strategic logistics hub linking Asian manufacturers with Middle Eastern, African and wider global markets.
