Global ports operator DP World reported a strong operational performance at its South Container Terminal (SCT) at Jeddah Islamic Port, handling more than 221,200 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in July 2026, reflecting sustained cargo momentum through the Red Sea gateway.
The July throughput underscores SCT’s growing role as a critical logistics hub on the East–West trade corridor, supported by recent capacity expansion and infrastructure upgrades.
The terminal, which underwent a major modernisation programme, has seen its annual capacity increase significantly - from 1.8 million TEUs to around 4 million TEUs, with plans to reach 5 million TEUs in the long term.
Industry observers attribute the robust volumes to a combination of recovering regional shipping activity and DP World’s continued investment in automation and terminal efficiency.

Earlier in 2026, the company added new semi-automated quay cranes at Jeddah, enhancing its ability to handle larger vessels and improve turnaround times.

With ongoing disruptions and security concerns affecting traditional maritime routes, Red Sea ports such as Jeddah have become increasingly important for maintaining supply chain continuity between Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
Operational data indicates steady vessel traffic at SCT throughout July, with multiple container services calling at the terminal, reinforcing its status as a key transshipment and gateway facility in the region.
DP World has been actively aligning its Saudi operations with the Kingdom’s broader logistics ambitions under Vision 2030, which aims to position the country as a leading global trade and logistics hub.
Investments at Jeddah’s South Container Terminal form a central pillar of this strategy, enabling higher throughput, improved service reliability and enhanced connectivity.
