Jafza Achieves Operational Net Zero Across All DP World Facilities

Supporting a lower-carbon future for businesses in the free zone

Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza), has achieved operational net zero emissions across DP World-owned and managed facilities under its operational control, marking an important milestone in its sustainability journey and supporting the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 vision.

The achievement applies to operational Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions within Jafza’s operations.

Jafza reached the milestone by reducing its operational emissions by approximately 99% through a combination of rooftop solar installations, renewable electricity sourcing through I-RECs, building retrofits and energy-efficiency optimisation.

This includes nearly AED 200 million invested in energy-efficient LED streetlights and in retrofit projects designed to reduce both energy and water consumption.

The small number of residual emissions, amounting to 231 tonnes of CO2 equivalent, were offset through independently-verified carbon removal credits from Boomitra, a 2023 Earthshot Prize winner focused on soil carbon restoration.

Jafza has also continued to strengthen the sustainability performance of its built environment, including two LEED Platinum building certifications in 2025.

Abdulla Al Hashmi, Global COO, Parks & Economic Zones, DP World, said: “Achieving operational net zero across our own facilities in Jafza is an important step in our sustainability journey.

"It shows that large, complex trade and logistics ecosystems can take practical action to reduce emissions, while supporting the businesses within them to pursue their own sustainability goals.”

While this operational milestone applies to Jafza’s own operations and does not include tenant emissions, which are independently managed by the individual businesses within the free zone, Jafza continues to support companies in the free zone through sustainability awareness, energy-efficiency collaboration and access to lower-carbon infrastructure and solutions where available.

Jafza’s next priorities include scaling energy-efficiency solutions further across its operations and supporting initiatives to divert over 80% of waste from landfill.
